The Jazz and Classical concert on 16 July 2011 at St Mary's Cathedral, sponsored jointly by The Consulate General of Japan and The Japan Society of Scotland had huge success.

The audience of more than 300 were enraptured by the beautiful duet by Makoto Ozone, Japan's foremost jazz and classical pianist and Tommy Smith, one of the UK's leading saxophone player. When Tommy Smith's secret guest, Branford Marsalis, a world-renowned saxophone player appeared on the stage, not only the audience but especially Makoto Ozone was surprised to see him because even he hadn't known Branford coming in that evening. All three players were old friends and they enjoyed playing together. It was like they were talking to each other in a nostalgic mood. Certainly the audience thoroughly enjoyed the jazz evening.

At Izzis on 7th Feb 2011

24 members and friends gathered together to celebrate the Year of the Hare. We were all delighted to catch up with each other after the snowy months. In fact, the heavy snow ,which began at the end of November had forced us to cancel our Bonen-kai at Izzi's . This time around, Izzi's had to struggle with a flood in the basement, but with a reduced staff put on an excellent meal with generous portions.
The conversation did not flag for a moment and a good time was had by all !
